Stantec has extensive experience providing infrastructure management services on environmental projects. On several stormwater management projects, we have created detailed Geographic Information Systems (GIS) base maps from aerial photographs using Environmental System Resource Institute (ESRI) ArcView software. From there, we complete an inventory of storm drainage structures from existing record drawings and field survey utilizing Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) to locate the drainage structures. The records and field data can then be digitized to create accurate overlay data layers on the GIS map. Ideally, the GIS map will be integrated into an Infrastructure Management Plan (IMP) so that the client can manage systemwide infrastructure operations, such as maintenance, planning, and system improvements, among others.
