This LEED® Gold certified facility is one of the most environmentally sustainable buildings in Canada.

Stantec, in association with Hotson Bakker Boniface Haden and Cornerstone Architecture and Planning Ltd., provided full architecture; interior design; and structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services in the development of Mount Royal College's first LEED® certified building. As a member of the Energy Innovators Initiative, Mount Royal College (MRC) committed to developing a long-term corporate energy management plan identifying a full set of options in all facilities owned, managed, or built that will reduce the College's energy consumption. To this end, MRC minimized the Center's environmental impact through energy efficiency, resource conservation, and site design.

The building design incorporated a number of important features to respond to the conservation of sustainability objectives: introducing a structural and space demising system that provides high thermal mass; a high performance external envelope; optimization of natural light; and a displacement ventilation system, including the use of the atrium for ventilation exhaust, augmented by solar chimneys.
