Putting a team together to pull a Boeing 757 aircraft that weighs over 72 tons for charity seems fitting for our Scarborough, ME office. Not only because the office works in designing airport infrastructure but also because they know how to dream big.
The MS Plane Pull Portland, benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, brought 18 teams and hundreds of spectators together to see who could pull a FedEx cargo plane down a 12-foot track the fastest. The Stantec Nor’Easters were easy to spot, proudly wearing their bright orange t-shirts. Team captain David Gouger, whose enthusiasm and tireless effort led the fundraising charge, was joined by Stantec staff and family who gave their time and energy generously for the cause.
From the start, the Stantec Nor’Easters were determined to be the top fundraising team, setting a $6,000 goal. For the weeks and days before the event they held the #1 spot but hours before the fundraising competition closed the other teams turned up the heat! In the end, by a $34 margin, the Stantec Nor’easters not only met their goal but crushed it, raising a whopping $8,300 and taking home the title of Overall Event Champions for their incredible achievement. When the dust settled, the MS Plane Pull had brought in over $30,000! The hard earned funds will go towards important research, programs and services for individuals and their families fighting MS.
