Stantec in the Community Day 2016

On September 21, 2016, almost a third of our employees volunteered for our fourth annual Stantec in the Community Day. That’s 8,000 people supporting our communities by cleaning up beaches, upgrading arts centers, sorting donations, flipping burgers, and more.

North Bay, Ontario
The North Bay team takes pride in finding unique ways to help out in their community, so this year 14 employees designed and constructed a Recognition Wall for the North Bay and District Humane Society inside the dog park located beside Champlain Park. The team has a soft spot for furry friends, so creating a wall that will commemorate loved pets and acknowledge Humane Society donors seemed like a perfect fit.

The North Bay and District Humane Society is a key service provider in the community that is devoted to providing care and protection for animals.

Ottawa, Ontario
The Stantec team in Ottawa had seventy team members participating in three different events. A hardworking team of 30 members headed to the Ottawa Food Bank as they have done for the past two years. The team harvested fresh produce on the Black Family Farm as part of the Community Harvest Program, which delivers nutritious local food for those in need.

Stantec’s Ottawa team also announced a $10,000 donation to the Ottawa Food Bank’s Community Harvest Program, as part of Stantec’s Community Engagement Program.

The second team of 25 dedicated employees sorted food at the Ottawa Food Bank warehouse. Over 50,000 people in the Ottawa area rely on food that passes through this centre each month.

15 volunteers made their way up to the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa’s Camp Smitty where they carried out an annual cleanup of the camp and helped with needed work and repairs.  Camp Smitty provides children from under-privileged families with the opportunity to attend summer camp each year.

Sudbury, Ontario
The team in Sudbury worked with the City to identify public areas that needed revitalization. Twelve volunteers rolled up their sleeves and removed graffiti from several community playgrounds, including Ravina Gardens, Central Lane, and the Birch playground.
