Stantec in the Community Day 2016

On September 21, 2016, almost a third of our employees volunteered for our fourth annual Stantec in the Community Day. That’s 8,000 people supporting our communities by cleaning up beaches, upgrading arts centers, sorting donations, flipping burgers, and more.

Philadelphia volunteers were so excited about Stantec in the Community Day they took on three important causes.

About 20 volunteers headed to the city’s General Philip Kearny School to paint and clean several common areas, including the library and computer room. In addition, the team pitched to organize old library books for storage or sale.

Back at the office, nearly 100 volunteers pitched in for The Breathing Room, an organization that lends a helping hand to families affected by a loved one who is battling cancer. Over the course of the lunch hour, staff moved through an various office assembly areas to put together snack bags and write personal notes for the Breathing Room families.

Meanwhile another team was busy at work to support Covenant House, an organization helping runaway, homeless, and trafficked youth. Led by interior designer Jolene Modri, our local team designed and constructed a pop-up art installation to support the organization’s #AMICUTOUT fundraising campaign. The Stantec volunteers created 200 life-sized cut-outs to represent 546 homeless youth unable to get housing last year. In mid-October, the team helped assemble the display at Philadelphia’s Dilworth Park.
