It’s move-in day for Stantec in Waterloo

Global design firm arrives in new office in the David Johnston Tech Park

It’s move-in day for Stantec. Today, 350 local team members from the global design firm move into the innoTECH building in the David Johnston Research + Technology Park in Waterloo.

For the past 13 years, Stantec’s Kitchener-Waterloo team had worked from a downtown Kitchener location on Frederick Street.

“Our new, larger home will help facilitate our growth in the community and puts us in the heart of huge talent pool,” says Kevin Fergin, office leader for Stantec’s Waterloo Region office. “The innoTECH building is a perfect fit. Not only does it give us a larger space for our growing team, but the building itself is LEED Gold certified. These sustainable features are in lock step with our values as a company.”

Stantec’s Interior Design studio designed the new Waterloo Region office space for their Stantec colleagues.

“Good interior design improves quality of life and, as a result, productivity,” says senior designer Joe Bille-Volkenborn . “If you’re in an environment that you enjoy being in, that has healthy benefits like natural light, you’re going to feel better and be happier.”

The new office space will enjoy abundant natural light and the floor plan enables easy navigation. Bille-Volkenborn and his team designed collaboration zones, work sharing, and socializing, as well as a large Café space with multiple seating options for lunch or impromptu meetings.

While the innoTECH building itself is already LEED Gold certified, the Stantec’s interior design team is pursuing a separate LEED Gold certification for its space.

Stantec is an active part of Waterloo Region and its team members are playing key roles in many projects in the community. Key Stantec projects in the region include:

  • Stream and park rehabilitation at the Henry Sturm and Sandrock Greenways, (Filsinger Park) Kitchener
  • Indoor artificial turf design and replacement at RIM Park, Waterloo
  • Nine roundabouts and traffic flow improvements on Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge
  • Reconstruction of the Greenbrook Water Treatment Plant, Kitchener
