Community First! Village receives Best of the Best Award from Engineering News-Record

Engineering News-Record (ENR) recently named Community First! Village in Austin, Texas, a development of Mobile Loaves & Fishes, Best of the Best Residential/Hospitality Project in their “Best of the Best Projects” 2016 awards competition.

ENR’s Best of the Best Award program recognizes projects from across the country that display unique and innovative techniques, future value to the engineering profession, and fulfill the client/owner’s needs. More than 700 teams submitted projects to ENR’s regional Best Projects competitions. The winners of these regional competitions became eligible for the national competition. The projects are then judged on teamwork, safety, overcoming challenges, innovation, and quality. One of the reasons ENR’s Best Projects judges selected Community First! Village was because of its “great contribution to the community.”

Community First! Village is a 27-acre master-planned community providing affordable, permanent housing for the disabled, chronically homeless in Central Texas. The development has room for 240 micro-home units and RVs, an Alamo Drafthouse outdoor movie theater, medical facility, community market, walking trails, and more than six acres of organic and sustainable farming. The community aims to provide an atmosphere of kinship and support, while inspiring the surrounding community into a lifestyle of service with the homelessness.

Stantec assisted in site selection and provided master planning in collaboration with Mobile Loaves & Fishes and L.M.Holder III. Stantec also provided survey, landscape architecture, civil, and structural engineering services. Construction of the first phase is complete and design for Phase II is underway.

By making community the priority, Community First! Village is improving the lives of the homeless in Central Texas, and helping them rebuild dignity and hope.
