Stantec has hired Paul Makowicki, AIA as principal to help launch Stantec’s new Los Angeles office. With 36 years of high-profile architectural experience, he will work with Stantec leadership to establish Stantec’s presence in Los Angeles and support southern California projects.
Makowicki’s responsibilities are two-fold, including; 1) working with the design team to set up an LA office that will successfully deliver high profile, exceptional design; and 2) working with leadership to develop a strategy for expanding Stantec’s design capabilities and local market visibility, attracting high qualify staff, and enriching the firm’s portfolio in the region. The LA office will service clients across a broad spectrum of building sectors in a way that will be sustainable, create a buzz about design, provide for future growth, and enhance career opportunities for all levels of staff.
“Paul joining our leadership team brings us an instant credibility in the vibrant and highly competitive commercial market of Los Angeles,” says Rory Picklyk, vice president. “We are very pleased to have his depth of experience, management skills and professional leadership at the core of the growth of our design practice across southern California.”
With 22 years at a prior architectural firm, Makowicki was part of the leadership team that grew the firm from one office of 275 staff members to 15 offices with over 1000 employees around the globe. He was integral in delivering projects in 16 different countries. He successfully led acquisition integrations and spent six months in Beijing, China leading the integration process of an acquired private Chinese architectural and interiors firm.
Makowicki is a member of American Institute for Architects (AIA). Previously, he sat on the board for Washington State China Relations Council. He is temporarily sitting in the San Francisco office until the new LA office is ready for occupancy.
