Stantec wins Quebec Consulting Engineering Award

Lévis Marine Terminal redevelopment honored with Award of Excellence

Design firm Stantec captured an engineering award of excellence for the Lévis Marine Terminal redevelopment project, a vital transportation hub that ferries people across the St. Lawrence River. The award was presented at the 15th annual Quebec Consulting Engineering Awards in Montreal on May 15, 2017. This redevelopment was designed for Quebec's infrastructure corporation (SQI), in collaboration with the City of Lévis and the Quebec Ferry Company (STQ). The project won in the Urban Infrastructure category.

The Quebec Consulting Engineering Awards celebrate the engineering of the industry’s best projects, and champion the innovation and excellence of clients and consulting engineering firms.

The new Lévis Terminal project is part of a significant revitalization initiative aimed at accommodating the growing number of passengers who rely on the Quebec City/Lévis crossing―a pillar of social, economic, and tourism development for the region. Stantec designed a complete redevelopment plan for the site’s infrastructure, including civil engineering works and development of the terminal’s surrounding area to improve traffic flow and user access.

"One of this project’s challenges was keeping the ferry crossing operational during the work, while ensuring users’ safety at all times. Also, the site’s unique geographic setting—a flood-prone area—along with the integration of heritage elements and environmental components, made this project a real feat in terms of design and coordination," said Stantec’s Denis Maltais, project manager and sector leader, Community Development.

"Thanks to improved user traffic flow and site accessibility, the community now benefits from more modern, accessible, and safer facilities, boosting the quality of the transportation experience."

For this project, Stantec also designed the building structure for the new terminal, which was inaugurated in the summer of 2015.

The 2017 Quebec Consulting Engineering gala brought together 300 representatives from the consulting engineering industry, including clients, partners, and the next generation of engineers.

Stantec’s team in Quebec is made up of 1,300 employees working at 22 offices across the province.
