Stantec’s Don Davidson inducted as Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada

Calgary-based Architect Don Davidson was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute Canada (RAIC) at the Festival of Architecture in Ottawa on May 25, 2017. The RAIC College of Fellows bestows fellowship in recognition of outstanding achievement. Criteria for RAIC Fellowship include design excellence, exceptional scholarly contribution or distinguished service to the profession or the community. 37 Fellows from across Canada were inducted into the College of Fellows in 2017.

“Don has had a long-standing commitment to working in the Alberta design community,” says Brent North, discipline lead for Stantec Architecture. “Although most recently recognized in Health Care circles, he has practiced in multiple sectors and through the turbulence of a number of economic cycles. He is also well known at the Alberta Association of Architects where his service in several roles led to a term as President of the Association”

With 30 years of architectural experience, Don’s extensive healthcare design portfolio includes over 60 major healthcare facilities in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Ranging from acute care, seniors care, palliative care, hospitals, cancer centers and comprehensive community care, Don’s work ensures the needs of patients, families and caregivers are reflected in each project. Don believes in a holistic approach to design, providing humane, respectful environments to deliver care.

“This is a well-deserved honor for Don,” says Todd Hartley, principal, Stantec. “Don’s passion for designing healthcare facilities that puts the needs of patients and their families first is undeniable. Fortunately, many of those great projects from hospitals to continuing care facilities, can be found across western Canada supporting those in need of care.”

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) is the leading voice for architecture in Canada, representing 5,000 members. The RAIC advocates for excellence in the built environment, works to demonstrate how design enhances the quality of life and promotes responsible architecture in addressing important issues of society.
