Shift responds to the shifting of light and shadow over a two to three hour period within the space of the Window Gallery. The installation builds upon the existing window frame mullions and the shadows that they create to establish a structure for the woven thread. Changes in light, perspective, and the movement of people, cyclists, streetcars, cars, etc. affect the appearance and disappearance – and space – of the constructed lines of fibre within the frames. Shift studies and plays with the notion of an architecture that is in one moment permanent and static, and in another temporary, dynamic and fluid.
