Colby grew up skateboarding in Arizona and turned professional in 1990 when he was 16. After 10 years as a pro skateboarder, he began studying urban horticulture and landscape design at ASU. There, he found his passion for drafting and design. In 2001, Colby decided to combine his years of knowledge and experience in skateboarding to transition into the design of municipal skate parks.
Over the past 17 years Colby has designed more than 250 skate parks, plazas, and action sports facilities across the US and overseas. He’s worked nationally and internationally with municipalities and some of the largest names and companies in action sports, helping to create environments that accommodate all levels of athletes and participants. Prior to working with Stantec Action Sports, Colby was the lead designer for notable projects including the Maloof Money Cup, Street League, Woodward Skate Camp, and many award-winning municipal parks.
Using 3-D software and traditional drafting techniques, Colby quickly turns ideas and visions into concepts. Whether in the design studio or on-site, Colby’s experience as a lifelong skateboarder and his creative design work have helped facilitate clients and skaters’ dreams, turning them from an idea to reality.
