To strengthen the feeling of security, we must rely on a host of details that go beyond simple physical barriers. We must think about the image that is projected and the respect that places arouse in us.

Dominic Chevrier

Longueuil, Quebec

After training in electronics, Dominic discovered his keen interest in intrusion alarm and fire alarm fields. Later, he expanded his expertise to all applications offered in physical security. At Stantec, he’s the department director of our Physical Security Consulting and Engineering group.

In his more than 28 years of experience, Dominic has designed and introduced global security solutions including access control, video surveillance, intrusion alarm, and building and site hardening to provide multi-layer solutions that improve the security posture and reach security project objectives: protecting the client’s assets.

It’s the projects you work on that make you in this field, and Dominic had the chance to work on numerous challenging projects that forced him to exceed his limits many times. Dominic’s clients have ranged from casinos to pharmaceutics companies, from energy producers to corporate and private clients, both in Canada and internationally. Now, Dominic is a reference point for physical security matters, offering his public and private clients integrated and efficient technological solutions.

Dominic’s expertise has also been called upon by the Government of Canada to provide perimeter protection around Parliament Hill in Ottawa and by the Government of Quebec for the same matters.

Closely following the market’s trends and evolution, Dominic remains on the lookout for new technologies and practices that can be applied to physical security. He’s always on the cutting edge of innovation, always providing certification that is legally valid and recognized among industry stakeholders and the organizations he serves.

I’ve presented on new technological applications in engineering and security for the Montréal section of the International American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS Montréal).

Always a classic, I recommend reading The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

For non-fiction, I really enjoyed The Turnaround: How America’s Top Cop Reversed the Crime Epidemic by William Bratton and Peter Knobler, but for fiction I’ve probably read every Tom Clancy and Ken Follet book out there.

Putting a security camera above a door is only one potential step in actually securing a facility. Check out “Detection, Delay, Defence: Dominic Chevrier of Stantec on Building Security” to learn more about how we’re educating our clients about their security—and then actually enhancing their facilities.

In 2014 and 2015 I supported the Fondation Christian Vachon—a charity that helps children persevere in their academic achievement—through a long distance relay run to raise money.
