Brent is so passionate about water that he spends most of his free time in the ocean—even in the cold New England waters! As a marine scientist, Brent is interested in projects that involve water, specifically when it comes to power generation. He loves working in this industry because it involves stepping out of his comfort zone to understand complex operational and engineering considerations at power facilities and how to balance them with source water concerns and environmental impacts.
Brent lives near the coast and loves spending time with his young children exploring and teaching them to appreciate the local tidal marshes, barrier beaches, and rocky intertidal zones. He’s explored beyond his local waterways to such far-flung locales as northern British Columbia. Accessible only by helicopter, followed by hikes though pristine habitats with First Nation guides, Brent helped with fisheries assessments of these remote areas, an experience he will never forget. The social, cultural, and ecological insight he’s gained through projects like these gives him a unique perspective on how water and development affect local communities.
