Consultants should recommend what the best solution options are and why, and not what they think the client wants.

James (Jim) Dykes

Senior Principal

Portland, Oregon

Jim brings 41 years of experience in the planning, design, and management of electrical power system projects for electrical utilities, industrial facilities, and government facilities.  His experience includes high voltage transmission lines and substations, overhead and underground distribution systems, and diverse renewable energy generation electrical infrastructure and interconnect services.

Throughout his career Jim has focused on the link between solid engineering services and genuine client service.  His advice to those he mentors is be wary of ‘minor’ issues like spelling errors or format problems, as these can undermine the perceived quality of work. And, also the role of a consultant should be to provide forthright- tell the client what they need to know, and not just what they want.

Jim cites wind and solar energy development as his preferred industry, owing to their rapid technological advancement towards parity as being a great source of continued learning and development.
