During his 37 years with Stantec, Mike has mastered the art of project management on educational facilities—managing projects worth more than $1.3 billion. A team player, Mike knows the value of working with the client, project team, and contractor to make sure that the facility meets the needs of the district and community.
On a recent project, the Northwest Outdoor Learning Center, Mike got to do a few different things. The job is on a 200 acre site and will be used by all students from Northwest Independent School District. The project includes a great hall with flexibly-sized indoor classrooms and four out-buildings: a large pavilion, restroom pavilion, creek pavilion, and wetlands pavilion.
The buildings are connected by walking trails for class-to-class hikes, and learning areas are scattered throughout the site that give students some variety while they listen.
When Mike isn’t designing education buildings, he might be woodworking or maintaining his backyard koi pond. He’s also got two grandkids who live nearby, and spending time with them is always a priority.
