Sustainable building design is not a goal—it’s a staple in my everyday practice.

Leif Fuchs

Senior Associate

Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Nearing 25 years of architectural experience in residential and institutional design, Leif’s worked on projects ranging from single-family houses to the 120,000-square-foot School of Management at Dalhousie University. He’s passionate about the role architecture plays in the creation of healthy building environments, stressing the importance of collaborative and comprehensive solutions throughout the design process.

Leif appreciates the education sector, though he’s gained ample experience specializing in sustainable building strategies, adaptive-reuse projects, and healthcare facilties. He’s proud to have designed Wagmatcookewey School in Nova Scotia, an educational facility for a Mi’kmaq community that won the Lieutenant Governor’s Award—the province’s top architectural prize—in 2014.

Leif’s leisure time is generally spent enjoying the beautiful outdoors with his wife—hiking, sea kayaking, and tending to their 25-acre yard and garden. Elsewise, he’s likely reading New Scientist or Rolling Stone magazine.
