Working in different regions, you often find subtle differences in client expectations, which require a different project approach. As a leader, I look for those differences and find ways to meet expectations.

Juan Garcia

Calgary, Alberta

For over 10 years, Juan has been working on high-voltage substation design in both the protection and control (P&C), and physical electrical layout disciplines, primarily in Western Canada. These days, he leads a group of engineers working mostly for local utility companies, but also oil and gas and renewable energy clients.

Juan and his team design greenfield substations and retrofit existing brownfield substations from the ground up, while coordinating with other disciplines such as P&C and civil/structural counterparts. Recently though, he’s expanded his focus to include work in the US. For him, the challenge of seeing different types of projects from all over North America is exhilarating.

When he isn’t at work, Juan might be in the gym or outdoors working on his healthy lifestyle. He enjoys martial arts and kick boxing, and when he’s at home, he’s usually working on household projects or working under the hood of a car.
