Growing up St. John’s, Newfoundland, Amelia’s local recreation center was a community hub—a place where Amelia could connect with friends, play recreational sports, and hone her skills in competitive soccer. Here, she equipped herself with the values of teamwork, leadership, and community, values that have led her to where she is today.
Now a Calgary-based architect, Amelia specializes in sports, recreation, and leisure design. She creates community gathering places across Alberta by listening to her stakeholders and illustrating their desires into built form. Her strengths lie in leading large teams to accomplish a design filled with connective interplay of spaces that connect people with their communities.
Recently, for the Red Deer College Gary W. Harris Games Centre, she led the facilitation between multiple stakeholder and user groups. The collaborative effort resulted in a facility that connects the community with the college through recreation, education, and social spaces.
