Healthcare design just gives me so many opportunities to innovate. I can think about new ways of organizing space from my research of hospital design in Europe or I can think about sustainability and multiple ways to reduce energy consumption and our collective footprint. The field is so fertile.

Ray Pradinuk

Principal, Architect

Vancouver , British Columbia

As a creative thinker, Ray utilizes evidence-based design research and innovation in striving for the best architectural solution. While working with clients and design teams on complex building types, his focus has been on the functional and social implications of spatial arrangement and its impact on staff communications, operational efficiencies and cost savings. Ray has an M.Sc. from University College, London in Space Syntax theory, and has applied the theory and its computer-based analytical methods to urban and architectural planning and design problems. Ray is the lead, healthcare research and innovation for Stantec, and is a frequent presenter at healthcare design conferences across North America. He is a member of the Green Guide for Healthcare Steering Committee.

Ray authored The Cost/Benefit of an ‘Emerging Best Practices Hospital', a comprehensive evidence-based study of design strategies to improve the contribution of healthcare buildings to resource conservation, operational efficiency, staff well-being and patient safety which was presented at the Centre for Health Design Conference in Scottsdale in November 2005.
