Joanna is a 10-year wildlife biologist leading projects throughout British Columbia in mining, oil and gas, wind energy, and forestry. Before joining Stantec, she worked as a field biologist on forest songbird research and monitoring in the forestry sector under the Coast Forest Strategy.
Recently, Joanna has been involved in developing and implementing caribou mitigation and monitoring plans, caribou habitat restoration plans, and access management plans. She’s been consulting and engaging with Aboriginal groups and regulators on these plans, and has come to understand some of the key issues around caribou, wildlife habitat, wildlife management, and cultural concerns of industrial development in caribou range.
Outside of work, Joanna enjoys spending time with her young daughter (who is also developing a love of nature), going on hikes, horseback riding, camping, and exploring southern Vancouver Island. Joanna also enjoys birding, both locally and in exotic locales like Ecuador and Panama with her husband, and she loves going back to the UK to spend time with her family.
