I work with brilliant people, visionaries and innovators, who are creating solutions to serious world challenges, while inspiring and mentoring the next generation.

Jill Swensen

Principal, Architecture

Butler, Pennsylvania

Jill’s focus is on science and engineering teaching and research facility projects with technically complex environments, where high work productivity and adaptability must intersect with comfortable, pleasing environments for researchers, instructors, students, doctors, and patients. That commitment, along with her expertise in designing complicated buildings with the requisite flexibility of infrastructure and architecture, makes Jill a trusted partner to our clients.

Increasing instrumentation and technology demands. Higher environmental performance standards. New delivery processes and team organization models. Jill specializes in researching and designing for these unique challenges, and she carefully follows teaching and research facility benchmarking and trends.

A skilled facilitator, her success is built on a commitment to communicating openly and frequently. Her recent projects include the Carnegie Mellon University Scott Hall and Ohio State University Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Chemistry Building.

WHAT I'M UP TO

THE CONFERENCE TRAIL
Comparing and contrasting research facility projects in design, in construction, and those recently completed, Michael Reagan, Edwin Hargrave, and I presented at the recent Tradeline conference and explored how to incorporate changing research space models in interdisciplinary research facility plans.

Should science building designs anticipate the future addition of engineering programs and vice versa? Michael Reagan and I recently explored some in-progress projects to illustrate how these questions are being answered by leading institutions—and how those answers are defining best practices.

IN MY COMMUNITY
For five years I was on the Leadership Butler County board of directors, and now I’m serving on the Butler County Chamber of Commerce board of directors.

I previously served on The Ellis School buildings committee, and I recently joined their Board of Trustees.
