Rachel thinks about environmental impacts at multiple scales, from pondering the role of soil fungi in prairie restoration, to considering avian diversity shifts after flyway deforestation impacts. At Stantec, Rachel applies her knowledge of natural systems to complete natural resource inventories and impact assessments, particularly in wetlands, plant communities, and rare species habitats.
Starting her career as a wetland botanist, Rachel got her feet wet inventorying rare species on Nature Conservancy lands and providing real-time impact avoidance consultation during T-line construction. Since then, she’s worked on a variety of projects including restorations, wetland mitigations, environmental impact statements, and endangered resource screening and surveys.
When not at work, Rachel’s passion for the environment continues at home, where she can be found learning to identify bees in her prairie garden and applying permaculture design principles to her yard and garden.
