Leia Dominique Abaya

Senior Process Engineer

Photo of Leia Dominique

Leia has over 10 years of experience as a process engineer, working primarily with the commissioning, biological start-up, and engineering design of applied technical principles for wastewater treatment processes. She designs process systems for treating water, wastewater, and solid waste using biological, physical, and chemical processes and their associated equipment.

Many of Leia’s projects involve wastewater treatment plants that specialize in anaerobic treatment with biogas production. One of her most memorable projects to date was the Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Sludge Conditioning Project in Auckland, New Zealand. With a focus on improving sludge management and energy recovery on site through use of biogas and load management of biomass, Leia and her team also developed long-term upgrades for the existing solids streams.

When she isn’t engineering better process for WWTP, you’ll find Leia running her small café and serving her own blend of coffee inspired by her travels. She also spends time refining her photography skills, dreaming owning a gallery of her own or maybe, just maybe, landing a feature in National Geographic!
