Heather Grubert

Senior Drainage Engineer

Photo of Heather

In college, Heather had a brother-in-law who was already working in civil engineering, which piqued her interest. An internship eventually led to her 25 years, so far, in the transportation industry. She’s acted as a project manager and drainage engineer on numerous projects, drawing heavily on her experience as a project development engineer and project manager with the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT’s) District 5.

Heather works on a variety of transportation projects throughout Florida. These have included the design of primary and secondary drainage systems, temporary drainage, erosion control, pond siting, location hydraulics, and environmental resource permitting. She finds truly challenging projects to be the most rewarding, such as I-4 Beyond the Ultimate. As FDOT’s program to improve and enhance Interstate 4, it’s constantly changing and evolving to adapt to current situations.

When she isn’t engineering drainage projects, Heather loves to mentor interns and recent graduates. Away from work, you’ll find her watching local bands at nearby venues—any genre, really, but especially rock and country music.
