If you think a wastewater treatment plant upgrade can’t be exciting, think again! This water infrastructure project is essential to the short and long term growth and prosperity of the local community in the Grande Prairie region. How so? By increasing the plant’s process capacity by about 13 million liters a day while meeting stringent effluent criteria. The upgrade will help reduce costs for local families and businesses, and promote healthier aquatic ecosystems and improved water quality for current and future generations.
Our Stantec water treatment specialists came up with a design that includes influent flow meter upgrades, the installation of a third influent screw pump, two new biological nutrient removal bioreactors, two new secondary clarifiers, a rotary drum thickener, a 14.5 metre diameter digested sludge storage tank equipped with a sludge cooling system, a new centrifuge sludge dewatering building, dry polymer preparation, and pumping equipment – just to name a few.
What this means is that we had the opportunity to design capacity and reliability in water infrastructure for today and future generations. Now that’s exciting!
