In 2010 Edmonton’s Council committed to an ambitious dream – to turn its City Centre Airport lands into a marquee neighborhood. Council approved a vision and principles for the redevelopment. Once the master plan was complete, the City needed a partner that knew Edmonton and how to build a community that would set a benchmark for urban infill development. They turned to us.
Blatchford is designed to accommodate 30K people living in 11K units. The aviation heritage will be reflected in design elements, while sustainable infrastructure, like integrated cycle tracks, a district energy system, and low impact development initiatives, will provide a framework for future development. Parks, corridors, and plazas will integrate urban agriculture throughout the community and provide connectivity. Blatchford’s mixed-use housing and commercial space will reflect the diversity that makes up Edmonton: young and old, family and single, professional and blue-collar, will find housing that suits.
Stantec is providing design services to the Blatchford Redevelopment Office (the City’s development entity) as they proceed with Stage 1 and embark on the journey to achieve their ambitious objectives.
