We've completed the preliminary and detailed rehabilitation design of a six-lane, four-span steel girder bridge on PTH 101 over PTH 1 Fermor Avenue built in 1959. For rehabilitation, the steel girder superstructure was replaced with precast prestressed concrete box girders to accommodate current loading requirements. A roadway assessment with respect to lowering PTH 1 Fermor Avenue to increase clearance and adjusting the PTH 100 design profile to enable a 130 km/hr design speed formed part of the assignment. The rehabilitation recommendations included replacing the pier cap beams, steel girder replacement with concrete box girders, approach slab replacement and installation of new barriers.
The project consisted of interpretation and analysis of condition assessments, developing rehabilitation options, construction cost estimates, comparison of different superstructure options, strategy comparison in a life cycle costing model and developing a decision matrix to evaluate all alternatives which determined the final detailed design.
