Saskatoon’s population growth has created the need for a more vibrant downtown. In response, the City of Saskatoon (City) launched the four-phase City Centre Plan project in 2010. The first two phases entailed extensive research and public consultation, while the third phase involved creating the overall plan. In 2011, Stantec was retained by the City to complete phase three. This 20-year plan addresses transportation, residential and office development, safety, public spaces, architectural guidelines, and infrastructure solutions.
Enhancing public spaces is the focus of this plan with the intent to reinforce Saskatoon’s city centre as a dynamic place to live, work, and play. Additional parks, sidewalk cafés, offices, and retail space, in conjunction with improved transportation elements, such as vehicle, bus, pedestrian, and bike lanes are all addressed.
Our experienced team compiled and presented industry best practices along with future trends. Additionally, the City Centre Plan tackles regional initiatives such as increasing the downtown population.
