In 2012, we helped redevelop an existing single-user building into the current mixed-use South BLVD Shops. The renovation involved demolishing the eastern portion of the building to allow for a new two-storey development with retail on the main level and professional offices on the second floor. Other goals included freeing up enough space for additional parking, wider sidewalks, and meaningful landscape features.
The expansion allowed the design team to create a new and dynamic facade to the east and north elevations for a wide variety of mixed-use tenants. A wider sidewalk flanked by elegant landscaping along the east and north storefront provides a safe and continuous connection for the onsite stores. The mixture of retail and office allows for longer hours that promise to enhance customer traffic and bring new energy to the site, and our design presented a unique combination of glazing, wood veneer, and stone-inspired finishings.
Today, South BLVD Shops features a vibrant community of medical practitioners, a large residential developer, three restaurants, and multiple retail outlets all served by a large fitness club—complete with a basketball court and swimming pool.
