St. Mary’s Academy has united more than 300 K-12 students under one roof. Minor interior building renovations and a 14,000 SF addition were needed to accommodate the additional school population. Students, teachers, and the larger community now have access to new classrooms, a second gymnasium, a multi-purpose area, a music room, technology shops, and a community centre.
The school incorporates energy efficient technologies to save on utilities costs and educate its users on sustainability. We initiated a Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program application for a geothermal hybrid system that could be used as a R&D case study. We incorporated custom-built solar walls and more efficient occupancy lighting into our design, and built the addition so it can easily accommodate a geothermal expansion in the future.
Our involvement started at the master planning phase through to design and construction support services, covering geotechnical, civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering disciplines. Project features include a diesel fire pump, a dust collection system, and an architectural designed solar wall to preheat outdoor air.
