Red Deer, Alberta, was looking at new residential opportunities. They needed to develop more space for single- and multi-family homes—and they called on us to help them out.
To turn a whole bunch of houses into a community, we included interconnected parks and open spaces. In the southwest, a reconstructed wetland amenity was designed to preserve the landscape and function as an integral part of the Vanier Woods storm sewer system. Shot through with walking and biking trails, these parks became something the whole neighborhood could enjoy.
And, during planning, we incorporated an existing stand of trees into the development with a municipal reserve. This gave the new neighborhood a mature appearance, and it created a great opportunity for a playground.
