Alamosa Concentrated Photo Voltaic Solar Generating Project

Raising the bar on clean energy production: building the world’s largest CPV plant

Alamosa, Colorado

When Cogentrix needed to develop one of the first utility scale, high Concentration Photovoltaic (CPV) energy generation facilities in the nation, and the largest in of its kind in the world, they turned to Stantec.

Located on approximately 225 acres in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, the Alamosa CPV solar generating project features 492 highly concentrating photovoltaic generators supplied by Amonix Inc. Using optics and a dual axis tracking system, the Alamosa CPV project tracks the sun’s daily path, continuously focusing the solar radiation onto high efficiency photovoltaic cells. With peak production at 30 megawatts, the Alamosa CPV project provides enough clean, emission free energy to power over 6500 homes – proving that utility scale CPV projects can be commercially viable.

We work with some of North America’s top energy producers to provide critical services on benchmark setting projects, like the Alamosa CPV project. Nominated for Power Engineer’s Project of the Year 2012, the Alamosa CPV solar generating project is one example of how we raise the bar on expectations and expanding the possible.
