To accommodate the needs of their community, the Burnsville Lions Skate Park decided on phased design and construction for their facility. Phase 1, completed in June 2014 with the funds available, was a combination of concrete features and steel, pre-fabricated ramps.
Two years later, additional funding became available and they started on Phase 2. The newly expanded and upgraded skate park, completed in September 2016, totals 11,500 square feet and includes features that accommodate all ages and levels of ability. We contributed planning, design, cost estimating, civil engineering, 3D rendering, construction documents, and construction administration services.
The State of Minnesota has a six-foot depth restriction for bowls, but we were able to add one foot of extension/seat wall to the amoeba shaped bowl—creating a seven-foot-deep end pocket and the deepest bowl in Minnesota. The park now includes a larger street area with new features and a multi-directional flow.
