The Butler Health System (BHS) acquired the seven acre Eastland Plaza site to develop a major outpatient hub, including a regional heart and vascular center. This development, along with other BHS outpatient clinics, is helping to decompress the health system’s main campus, giving it the flexibility to save that hospital space for surgery, inpatient services, and emergency care.
We worked with BHS to create a 10 year master plan for services and structures on the Eastland Plaza site. In addition, we progressively renovated an existing office building there to host its outpatient heart and vascular diagnostic services, laboratories, x-ray facilities and physicians' offices.
Clinic floors were planned as groups of pods. Each pod has four exam rooms, a nurses' station, and an office/consult room, flex-scheduled for multiple physician practice sharing. Separate floors were set aside for physician administrative needs.
This structure allowed BHS to offer more competitive lease packages and to maximize use of the higher revenue spaces. Space for physician practices such as orthopedics, and specialty services such as imaging, will be added over the next five to 10 years.
