Stantec is working with multiple private and public agencies to provide ecological restoration and long term environmental monitoring for this 185 acre, heavily used forest preserve.
After numerous assessments on the site’s unique ecosystem, an ecosystem restoration and enhancement management and monitoring plan was developed to revitalize the area’s wetlands, prairies, and oak woodlands. Invasive trees and shrubs that crowded ancient woodland habitats, preventing sunlight from reaching ground level plants, were removed and colorful varied native grasses and wildflowers were reintroduced. Stantec also conducted control burns, an important natural catalyst in the development of healthy ecosystems.
Services such as water quality improvements, hydrologic evaluation and alterations, erosion control, seedbed preparation, and stream stabilizations were performed to help restore the area. Stantec also completed extensive baseline and post-construction monitoring studies and will continue to conduct vegetation surveys on a regular basis. This is an ongoing, collaborative effort with multiple agencies.
