Grapeland Aquatic Park and Sports Complex was built in a suburban neighborhood adjacent to Dolphin Expressway in the heart of Miami. Although excited for changes, the park’s neighbors were concerned about transforming their neighborhood park into a $20 million regional urban space. How would it impact access and parking to their homes? Recognizing that local buy-in was key to this project’s success, our team was called in to help them address these issues.
The result? Our master planners, architects, and civil engineers led a collaborative effort with the community that helped create this treasured icon — what is now Miami’s largest water park. Internationally renowned pop artist Romero Britto even specially designed the artwork featured throughout the park. The park is home to four pools with slides for visitors of all ages – from small children through adults; a lazy river — the Buccaneer River Ride; a recreation pool; and a baseball complex. Since opening in 2008, the park has actively promoted events for people of all ages, like water aerobics, movie nights and holiday specific events throughout the year. We’re proud to have made a splash in this Miami community.
