We provided schematic design, preliminary and final contract documents, and construction inspection for these parks. The design uses traditional New York City material, including hexagonal asphalt pavers in the interior of the parks along with the 34th Street district's signature pink granite pavers at the corners, granite seat walls, World's Fair benches, decorative planters and trash receptacles, and standard New York City style lights and fences.
Extensive landscaping along each park's edge helps to buffer the parks from the busy streets. New restrooms and a new newsstand add to the enhanced comfort of the parks.
The design also required engineering support, as the two parks are located above NYCT and PATH facilities. Stantec provided structural engineering services for foundation and vault ceiling design, ventilation grate replacements, and roof loading analysis. Utility design services were also provided for the new park sanitary, electrical and water distribution systems. Approvals were obtained from the Departments of Transportation, Environmental Protection, Parks and Recreation, as well as the Art Commission of the City of New York.
