Education is building for the future. So students need educational facilities that keep the future in mind. Horry County—the third largest school district in South Carolina—serves over 39,000 current students in 51 schools. But that wasn’t enough. They needed more. More schools. Better features.
The aim was to design two new facilities with a broad range of teaching and learning opportunities. Prototype concepts for an 800-student elementary school and a middle school that could house 800 to 1,200 students.
We took some project advocates on a tour of a few Texas schools—campuses with proven innovations and cutting edge designs. This helped the Horry County team see some opportunities in action. And to speak with educators and students who had lived with those features.
Our prototype designs are site-adaptable. They’re flexible enough to accommodate school growth, and they support multi-modal learning in a variety of settings. We also worked on an Education Center and two additions to existing schools. The new facilities will be landmarks in their communities—testaments to Horry County’s focus on the future.
