Reduced congestion and greenhouse gas emissions. Travel time savings. Better trip reliability. These are just a few of the benefits Los Angeles area motorists are enjoying thanks to the Metro ExpressLanes program. The $290 million program provides commuters, regardless of income level, with better travel options along two of LA's most congested corridors. The project converted high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) to high-occupancy toll (HOT), as well as offers single-occupant vehicles the option to use the lanes for a toll. By incorporating a congestion pricing strategy, more people are encouraged to use transit or join a vanpool/carpool, and solo drivers are encouraged to travel at off-peak hours. Carpools, vanpools, and motorcycles travel toll free. Motorists use FasTrak transponders to pay a fee.
This five-time award program keeps Los Angeles on the leading edge of innovative solutions that ease traffic congestion, improve air quality, and provide new travel options.
