Milton’s motto is “the highest quality of life in Georgia.” As their on call engineer, we’re designing a roadway system that meets that standard. We’ve been responsible for alignment improvements and adding turn lanes, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and improved drainage systems throughout the city. Examples include:
S.R. 372/Birmingham Highway at C.R. 27/Providence Road/New Providence: The existing intersection did not comply with Department of Transportation policy, and a lack of dedicated turn lanes increased congestion. We designed the city’s first roundabout and realigned Providence Road to improve capacity, sight distance, and safety.
S.R. 372 (Crabapple/Birmingham Highway): During peak hours the intersection was congested and a lack of left turn lanes led people to bypass the intersection altogether. We added turn lanes, designed two single lane roundabouts at two intersections, and improved the typical sections and alignment of existing local roads.
Hopewell Road at Cogburn Road: This four-way stop had no dedicated turn lanes. Instead of a signalized intersection, Stantec designed a safer and less costly single lane roundabout, and added a multiuse trail.
