With the winter tourist season approaching, a Florida community turned to Stantec for a fast-track solution to increase needed raw water capacity.
This wellfield expansion for Lee County was conceived as a two phase effort. Through excellent communication, rapid deployment of staff, frequent quality control reviews, and a high level of responsiveness by the client and our staff, we delivered bid-ready plans and specifications six weeks after receiving the go ahead.
The pace of the project was possible because we worked closely with Lee County and regulatory agencies to submit plans and permit applications as early in the process as possible. Coordinating the submittal of permit applications and notifications to closely match the needs of the reviewing agency, rather than waiting until design was complete and sending all agencies the same level of detail, cut weeks or months from the overall schedule.
As a result, we were able to prepare design plans, specifications, permits, opinions of probable cost, provide property acquisition assistance, and coordinate the sub consultants, and construction phase services in just a matter of weeks. The project contained more than 28,000 linear feet of 8-inch to 24-inch raw water main, eleven (125HP) wells, and a fiber optic SCADA system. All improvements were implemented while keeping the existing plant in operation.
Our ability to focus key personnel resources, and designate a single point of communication that allowed for quick response and follow up throughout the design and acquisition phases, were key to this project's success.
