When the Cold Spring Road Bridge, a registered historic landmark, required rehabilitation, we came in to provide engineering and design consulting services. Thanks to the poor condition of the concrete deck and steel girders, there was a lot of work to be done.
Our team completed a topographic survey, performed hydraulic and scour analyses, prepared a structure type study, prepared environmental permits, and produced final contract documents.
To maintain the look and character of the existing bridge, we maintained the arch fascias even after replacing the superstructure. The masonry abutments and center pier also required minor repairs, including repointing and pressure grouting small voids. Our team also designed scour countermeasures to ensure the stability of the bridge is maintained during Rippowam River high-flow events.
Now that construction is complete, Cold Spring Road Bridge will be an enhanced, protected crossing that maintains its history and character.
