The city’s business district lacked the walkability, public spaces and amenities seen in highly visible downtown settings, and was in need of traffic calming to increase vehicular and pedestrian safety. Our team organized an extensive public involvement program to coordinate with businesses along the corridor. A committee was organized and several workshops and charettes were held.
The outcome of this public involvement effort was the reconstruction of the public roads to incorporate widened decorative sidewalks, on and off street parking, landscaping, pedestrian crosswalks, decorative lighting, street furniture and associated amenities. The traffic calming afforded by the lane reduction, coupled with the context sensitive design elements, provided a prime example of the principles behind the Livable Community Initiatives movement.
We provided full planning services, which included final architectural and engineering design services, construction feasibility, cost estimating, inspection, and construction administration services for this multi-phase project in the heart of the city’s downtown district.
Services for the South Miami Downtown Improvements project were provided by members of C3TS prior to their employment with Stantec.
