Working together with AECOM and Alden Laboratories, Stantec biologists developed a new and potentially cost-effective screening technology for Aquaria Water LLC to help reduce impingement and entrainment at a New England desalination facility.
The team designed a physical model to test the survivability of early life stages of fish eggs and larvae after impingement. We are working with the design team and manufacturer to determine appropriate approach velocities, screen mesh size, and fish collection and return systems. The resulting models are meant to comply with the intent of Best Technology Available standards under Phase I of the Clean Water Act Section 316(b). Together, with our client, we are developing the fisheries monitoring program for this new technology.
