To maintain a competitive edge and enhance patient care for the community, Wheeling Hospital advanced a major addition to their existing facility. A hybrid critical care and acute care patient tower.
The new patient tower interprets this faith-based institution’s status as a “beacon of hope” for the community; it represents the values and mission of this Catholic institution. The prominent stair tower at the North East corner references the traditional element of the church steeple. A steeple’s function is to call out to the community as well as to express devotion towards heaven and the divine. The stair tower supports the crucifix and hospital logo—the Ichthus.
Inside, the tower has a new emergency care facility (complete with interconnecting trauma rooms), pediatric center, intensive care and cardio vascular center, and three floors of acute care beds. The whole thing is topped off with physician offices on the seventh floor.
Tower 5 has been an overwhelming success, the option of choice for the residents it serves. With this addition, Wheeling Hospital is better serving the community and better positioned to attract the best talents.
