Stantec Australia partners with First Nations Clean Energy Network to address Climate Action

Supporting Climate Action for Indigenous Communities.

04/23/2024 MELBOURNE, AU TSX,NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has announced its partnership with the First Nations Clean Energy Network to support the role of First Nations people in Australia’s energy transition.

The partnership will include financial aid to support the Network’s programs and initiatives. It will also involve knowledge sharing on First Nations-led renewable energy projects throughout Australia between Stantec’s team and Network members.

“Our partnership is about empowerment and capacity building for First Nations-led renewables projects,” said Ashok Sukumaran, Stantec Australia Country Leader. “As we support these projects across the country, we’ll also deepen our understanding of indigenous culture and the significance of collaboration and community,” he said.

Karrina Nolan, Executive Director of Original Power, a key initiator of the First Nations Clean Energy Network, explained that Stantec’s support will help ensure First Nations people are key players in Australia’s clean energy revolution.

“Our new partnership with Stantec will directly support local First Nations communities experiencing extreme temperatures and expensive, unreliable power to install clean energy projects. We're committed to investing in better outcomes for our mob from sustainable design on remote homelands to improving cost and reliability for community power systems, building resilience through workforce development and sharpening First Nations' enterprise competitiveness,” said Karrina.

Stantec’s dedication to climate action is well known and is reflected in our Climate Solutions strategic priority. Our connection to Indigenous Peoples is equally strong and longstanding and continues to expand globally. We support Indigenous-led nonprofits that work on climate action in New Zealand, Canada and the United States.
