The Broken Hill Community Health Centre provides a dental health facility, child, family, and community health services, and a new local health district administrative centre to the outback of New South Wales (NSW). Stantec's electrical, mechanical, and acoustic engineers delivered services from concept and design through to construction.
Predominantly built in Queensland, this is the first NSW hospital project to use a modular, lightweight steel structure to achieve guidelines for acoustic separation across a multiple storey health building. Typically, a concrete slab is used to meet the stringent separation criteria, but our acoustic team resolved issues to achieve sufficient noise and vibration isolation between floors. Our mechanical and electrical engineering teams also rose to the challenge of designing for modular construction, coordinating breaks in ductwork and cable trays. Careful consideration was given to how these would work on site, demanding a higher level of coordination with other services and builders.
The new facilities will deliver exceptional dental and healthcare services for the regional population of Broken Hill. Community members won’t have to travel far to benefit from the five-chair dental facility alongside a local health district administrative centre.
