The Children’s Hospital Westmead Stage 2 – Security Risk Assessment

As part of a ‘total healing environment’, Stage 2 of Sydney’s Westmead Hospital precinct offers new and expanded critical care and acute services within the Children’s Hospital. Nine separate design packages were needed in a tight timeframe to support the neonatal and paediatric ICU’s, cancer and cardiac services, acute inpatient beds, and operating theatres. Working alongside our core engineering teams, Stantec’s security specialists carried out a Security Risk Assessment (SRA) prepared to the Children’s Hospital’s particular needs.

We worked closely with the hospital and stakeholders to tailor the SRA to the paediatric care model, the facility environment, its functions, and its specific risk profile. In preparing the zonal model, we made use of local government statistics and national threat levels and applied security standards to meet both Regional and client requirements. We then worked closely with the security designers to implement practical and efficient measures to achieve a secure, yet friendly environment.

By making sure all security considerations were explored and that due diligence was undertaken, our security teams contributed to the hospital’s reputation as a world-leading service provider, delivering the best possible care for children in the community.
