Emerald Hills Residential Development, East Leppington

Often our client’s civil design projects involve the complexities of working within, and alongside, existing infrastructure in an already built environment. But even a greenfield, “clean-sheet” design can present challenges.

Emerald Hills Estate is a greenfield residential development located in Leppington, New South Wales, along the Camden Valley Way growth corridor. Our role included masterplanning, bulk earthworks, road and drainage design, traffic, transport and flood planning, and stakeholder consultation. One particular issue was flooding on a road downstream on the steep terrain. To mitigate this, we modified the catchments and detention basins to ensure the stormwater flows from the developed catchment did not exceed the predeveloped conditions.

This design solution ensured the stormwater flows to the downstream road were reduced and the existing flooding condition was improved. Our designs also had to account for potential impacts to an environmental conservation area, especially regarding the potential for erosion.
